June Newsletter

Hello!
The hot and sweaty days of summer have arrived. The youth at RWJD, many of whom do not have a permanent place to live, do not have access to a shower. Fortunately Barbara and Irving Rousso graciously donated the funds for the new shower located at the site. Thanks to their generosity, the youth will now be able to shower at Real World after standing at a hot bus stop in the heat. Showers and food, two things we often take for granted, can make a huge difference in the lives of these youths as they work towards employment and independence.

The Evite for the June 2 “shower” event at RWJD went out with a request for towels and toiletries. We would like to thank those who have already donated these items—your kindness will truly make a positive difference in so many lives. Attached is a photo of the toiletries and towels donated by the “Caring Neighbors of North Scottsdale.”

As people start to leave for summer vacations, I worry about keeping the pantry stocked. I will be away for the month of June, so please continue to collect food. I will be able to pick it up as soon as I return. Everyone at the Real World is extremely thankful for the centerpieces– cowboy hats full of food –at the AJFCA conference. Attached is a photo of this fun idea created by Kathleen Lunt and her daughters.

This month’s requests are macaroni and cheese and granola bars.
Please store these items until July, drop them at my house (my family will be there), place them in the container at the JCC, or bring them to Real World. The pantry needs this month’s food donations to stay stocked through the summer.

Thank you as always and enjoy your summer vacations,
Holly Packer
