Just 3 Things provides food for the Jewish Family and Children Service’s Real World Job Development and Youth in Transition programs. Youths who have grown up in foster care, especially those in group homes, did not have the advantages of personal parental guidance, encouragement, and teaching by example. In order to live successfully on their own once they turn 18, they need to learn some of the most basic skills of independent adult living – how to stay healthy and safe, how to make and keep appropriate friends, how to support themselves with worthwhile jobs, and how to be productive members of the community. Hunger and food are often pressing daily issues for these young adults as they struggle to obtain their GED, find jobs, make homes for themselves, and take positive steps forward.
Through Just 3 Things, you can provide a newly independent but needy young woman or man with food as they transition from foster care into a responsible adult. Please join me in stocking the PANTRY by donating just 3 non-perishable, microwaveable, food items a month. The donated food items will be transported to JFCS’s Real World Job Development Food Pantry specifically for the youth who meet at this site.
